Starting Out
Betsy Klub started in the ever-evolving world of beauty over 30 years ago in Pittsburgh, PA. She’s always had a love for styling hair. Betsy would draw her inspiration from the fashion industry, and bring her interpretation of current fashion trends to the chair. Before long, Betsy’s fashion-inspired beauty practice began to grow throughout the Pittsburgh area. As her practice grew, her focus shifted to teaching young stylist to become beauty professionals, and she would open her first salon to groom new beauty professionals.
“I’ve always loved styling hair, whether simple or formal. But, teaching cosmetology really inspired me to mentor and develop young stylists into successful professionals. The natural transition was opening salons. I opened my first salon and opened a second 7 years later. I trained and developed many talented artists over my 15 years as salon owner. Watching the success of my protégé was rewarding.”
Fostering Growth
Betsy’s salon went on to win Best in the Burgh four straight years, while mentoring over 100+ new hairstylists.
The salon worked with Pittsburgh Bridal Fashion Shows as exclusive hair and makeup stylists working along side celebrity bridal personalities Monte Durham, Randy Fenoli, and David Tutera. At the same time, the salon worked for Pittsburgh Fashion Week as hair and makeup artists.
The salon was very active in continuing education. Training certifications included: Matrix Socolor/colorsync, Joico Lumishine/chrome, Wella, Framesi, Beth Minardi Signature, Kenra Professional, Guy Tang MyFrames, American Balayage by Beth Minardi,, Candy Shaw Balayage, Sexy Hair Cutting system, Martin Parsons updo techniques, Aquage Upstyling, Olaplex, Minky Eyelash Extensions, Mirabella Bridal Makeup, Temptu Airbrush makeup, Dermalogica Skincare, Dreamcatchers Hair Extensions, Hot Heads Hair Extensions, Halo Couture Hair Extensions.
Betsy created a Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology approved Apprentice Program, to which she trained and graduated 3 apprentices. Apprentices had to apprentice for 2000 Hours and complete the curriculum within the salon, and pass the state board test followed by employing them.
Betsy created a training program for newly graduated cosmetologists so they could grow a career within the salon. Her program would send new stylists to classes and partner them with an experienced stylists/trainer to help develop their skills. The goal would be to immerse new stylists into her salon culture.
Betsy also, developed a bridal business within the salon to provide brides with full service hair and makeup in the salon or on location. A group of the stylists were trained in bridal hair styling and makeup and had bridal a consultant coordinate the weddings.
Slower Pace
Today, Betsy resides on Hilton Head, taking in the salt air and the sound of slow crashing waves with her husband and two rescue pomeranians. She have two grown children Emily, a biologist, and Ben, a law student. She enjoy doing art projects of all kinds in my home art studio.
“Hilton Head is more laid back, where Pittsburgh is fast paced and competitive. Here, she can more closely focus on one thing. I’m doing my best work” -Betsy
